Teenager language camps: 6 issues to address to reassure parents

A high quality junior programme requires 3 things : Great accommodation options, high quality level for language lessons and fun activities under a good ratio supervision.

In Nice, our students are welcomed in a beautiful estate in a 13 hectares  land planted with trees, completely private, 10 minutes away from Nice and Monaco between sea and mountain. The estate made of villas offers all the comfort of a premium accommodation with swimming pools and tennis courts.  In the morning, students choose between tennis or multi-activities, French lessons take place in the afternoon. We provide a 24 hour qualified and professional supervision with a 1/8 or 1/12 ratio.

In Biarritz, our students will combine language learning and fun sport activities in one of the most famous surf spot in the world. French lessons take place in the morning, students are taken to the beach in the afternoon by our sports instructors and are then supervised by our group leaders in the evening during the activities organized by the school (3 evenings per week).

To participate in a Junior programme at France Langue students must be between 14 to 17 years old.  At this age it’s really important to keep the teenagers busy, and happy!  Besides the French lessons and the sports activities both locations offer a social programmewith afternoon and evening activities to allow students to practice French outside the classroom: football games, beach volley contests, quizzes, photo contests, treasure hunts…   A full-day excursion to discover the region is organized on weekends. We pay special attention to the split in different groups for the 14-15 and the 16-17 years old.

Parents need reassuring as much as their children.

Based on our experience at France Langue, we find that we must systematically address these 6 issues in order to reassure parents who are sending their children on summer camps.

1. Supervision/Safety

Parents want to know if there are enough staff to look after the students, and if the staff are qualified.
In both Nice and Biarritz France Langue Junior programs are all inclusive and the students are being supervised from their arrival to their departure.
A group leader runs the activity programme and supervises the students. The supervision ratio is 1 to 8 for water activities and 1 to 12 for other activities and excursions.

2. Transport

The programme takes place in a 24-hour supervised camp in Nice. Transportation to and from the activities and excursions will be led by our group leaders.  In Biarritz, the students can either walk or take the bus together to school (always two students commuting together to the school). All the details are given before the start of the course, and host families can also help with the itinerary.

3. Airport transfers

For both our junior programmes, return transfer is included from the airport or the train station. In Nice, students will be picked up on arrival and dropped off on departure by our group leaders.  In Biarritz, students will be picked up on arrival and dropped off on departure by the host families.

4. Parental authorisations

In Biarritz, France Langue needs to receive a  signed authorisation from parents if students are allowed out unaccompanied during the free evenings (with a curfew).  In Nice, students are fully supervised and are not allowed out on their own.
The school requires a signed health form for each student (with medical records and requirements).

5. Meals

We provide full board accommodation so that special dietary requirements can be catered for.

6. Quality of the accommodation, the residence, the families

In Nice the residence is a top class accommodation in a beautiful park closed to the public.  Teens of the same gender stay in a twin rooms in a villa for 8 teens and 1 supervisor. In Biarritz all the families are carefully selected by our team, two teens of the same gender are placed in twin rooms.

Nice and Biarritz are two of the most popular destinations for young learners to study French in a safe, fun and warm environment. France Langue offers a Junior Program in each of those destinations. France Langue Junior programs are comprised of tuition and outdoor active learning.  This approach fully immerses students in a French speaking environment and encourages learning by doing.
