3 things to know about German university pathways

From our experience on the GLS university placement programme there are three main features which are necessary for a successful pathway programme in Germany.

1. Make sure that the student gets the language training she/he needs.

In Germany you will need a sufficient level of German language knowledge before joining university. So offering the right language programme for an appropriate time duration is most important.

2.  Prepare the client for studying in a different country

This includes preparing the student for a different learning culture and different formal requirements. That is why GLS German Language School Berlin added special “study skills” lessons to its pathway programme.

3. Provide support and reliable consulting

The clients will need one constant contact person or tutor who guides them through the whole process.

As most of our agents and clients already know, in Germany there is no tuition on studying itself. But of course studying is not for free. There are “hidden costs” a lot of clients aren’t aware of, like living costs and accommodation rents. The future students definitively have to keep that in mind before they decide to study in Germany.

We always recommend our agents and their clients to be 100% sure if decide to do a pathway programme. Applying and studying at a German university is a complex, sometimes intricate procedure for outsiders. So our top tip for agents is that they really should be meticulous when registering a student on a pathway programme. Of course, they don’t have to be afraid of it – we guide them and explain what to do.
